Romania’s newest airline, AnimaWings, part of the Memento Group, has taken delivery of the first of four A220-300s on lease from Azorra.
The A220-300 was delivered from the Airbus Mirabel site in Quebec.
AnimaWings will become the 10th A220 operator in Europe, showcasing the program’s continued expansion in the region. The addition of the A220 to AnimaWings’s existing fleet of A320s will support its network expansion.
AnimaWings currently operates two Airbus A320-200 aircraft to a variety of destinations in Europe, Africa and the Middle-East.
Together, the A220 and A320 families cover the single-aisle market from 100 to 244 seats offering the airline the flexibility to deploy each aircraft type according to traffic demand.
The A220 is the only aircraft purpose-built for the 100- to 150-seat market. AnimaWings’ A220 will be configured with 137 seats (12 in business and 125 in economy class). With the widest economy seats of any single-aisle aircraft, large windows and highest ceilings in its class as well as other innovative cabin features, AnimaWings’ passengers will enjoy a superior flying experience on both domestic and international flights.
The A220 can fly non-stop up to 3,600 nautical miles or 6,700 kilometres, making it ideal for AnimaWings’ new routes such as Dubai, Cluj, Iasi, Oradea, Paris, Larnaca or Stockholm. As a new-generation aircraft, the A220 will also support AnimaWings’ decarbonization ambitions, bringing greater efficiency with 25 percent lower fuel burn and CO2 emissions per seat compared to previous generation aircraft, and around 40 percent lower NOx emissions than industry standards.
As with all Airbus aircraft, the A220 is already able to operate with up to 50 percent sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).
Airbus aims for all its aircraft to be capable of operating with up to 100 percent SAF by 2030. As of the end of November 2024, over 30 customers have ordered almost 900 A220 aircraft. Close to 380 A220s are currently flying on more than 1,500 routes and more than 460 destinations worldwide. To date, more than 100 million passengers have flown on the A220.
